MidGLAM – Time to sign-up for the 2019 edition!!

Supported by the NSF Career Award program, we organize a weekly summer camp for middle school girls, called MidGLAM, with the support of the UIUC campus-wide Women in Engineering summer camp initiative. The MidGLAM organization is lead by Prof. Robert Maass and Prof. Cecilia Leal, both of which are strongly committed to fostering STEM education of future female scientists and engineers. Through generous NSF support, this day camp can be offered without charge, targeting the local Urbana-Champaign community. The camp focuses on various properties of materials, with a strong emphasis on explorational activities as to get the campers a lot of hands-on experience.

After a first successful launch in June 2017, we are glad to welcome Prof. Renske van der Veen from the Chemistry Department as part of MidGLAM 2018. Her team will introduce the campers to various ways how to make materials more colorful or shiny! We are looking forward to yet a fantastic week with 20 young girls.
